I'm an indie author and a scribbler of inane babble. I talk about books I've read/liked. Or at least, that's the plan.
Most of the reviews will be considered "mini-reviews." Usually, it's mostly my reaction to what I've been reading. There are people who are far better at doing full and helpful reviews. But I still have fun doing them, and hope you enjoy them!
I'll be honest, I really don't have a lot to say about Jeffrey Eugenides' MIDDLESEX other than it's fantastic. It's an amazing family saga that explains how the narrator went from being "Calliope" to "Cal." It's a family saga about forbidden love and the possible consequences that can come afterward, and how it can alter future generations. I loved all of the past history stuff with the narrator's family, and it was really intersting to see how the narrator went from a "her" to a "him." I also love the range of emotions you go through with this experience. It's often funny, and also often tragic. And a lot of the time very touching and sincere.
I highly recommend the audiobook, because Kristoffer Tabori gives an amazing reading. He gives life to the narrator and makes the tale that much more absorbing.
Sorry this isn't a very long review, but there's really not much else I can add. This was a memorable read/listen, and it's worth checking out.
